Apply DollarBack store credit to Appstle subscription renewals
Appstle℠ Subscriptions can apply a customer's Shopify store credit balance to their recurring orders, which means the cashback DollarBack issues can pay for renewals as well as one-off checkouts.
The work is all on the Appstle side. DollarBack issues the credit; Appstle spends it.
Prerequisites
Shopify's new customer accounts enabled (Shopify admin → Settings → Customer accounts).
Shopify native store credit enabled on your store.
Appstle Subscriptions installed, with at least one active subscription plan.
DollarBack issuing store credit — any earning program, a manual top-up, or the merchant API.
Turn it on
In Appstle, open Shop Settings.
Enable "Automatically apply store credit on recurring orders".
Save.
That's the whole integration. DollarBack needs no changes: the credit it issues sits on the customer's Shopify store credit account, which is exactly what Appstle reads.
What customers see
Once it's on, a customer holding store credit has it applied to their next recurring order automatically, reducing what's charged to their card. There's no button for them to press and nothing to choose — which is the main difference from Recurpay, where the customer opts in per renewal.
Earning on renewals
Renewal orders are ordinary Shopify orders, so your purchase cashback programs apply to them like any other. Two settings decide what a credit-paid renewal earns:
When a customer pays with store credit on the Special order types card. On the default, a renewal partly paid with credit earns on the remainder only.
The holding period and trigger event in Trigger & timing, which apply to renewals as they do to any order.
Left unchanged, this is self-limiting in a sensible way: credit spent on a renewal doesn't immediately generate more credit at the same rate.
Verify it works
Add a small store credit amount to a test customer in Shopify admin → Customers.
Confirm the setting is enabled in Appstle's Shop Settings.
Trigger or wait for that customer's next renewal, and check the resulting order: the charge should be reduced by the credit, and the customer's balance should drop by the same amount.
Check DollarBack admin → Analytics → Activity for the matching debit.
Common issues
Credit isn't applied to the renewal: confirm the Appstle setting is on, and that the customer's balance is in the same currency as the order. Shopify keeps one credit account per currency.
The customer has credit but the renewal charged in full: the balance may have been issued after the renewal was prepared. Appstle reads the balance when it processes the order.
Nothing appears in DollarBack's Activity: the redemption is Shopify's, not DollarBack's, so allow a few minutes for the balance sync. If it never appears, check Store credit isn't available at checkout.
Anything specific to Appstle's own behaviour: Appstle owns this feature, so their support can see things we can't.
